5G-Timber Features in the Success Brochure 2023 of the NKS DIT: Industrial Key Technologies
5G-Timber has been featured in a brochure compiled by the NKS DIT - the National Contact Point established by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research - among projects that have received funding under Horizon Europe or Horizon 2020. These projects showcase the diversity of topics in the field of industrial technologies within Cluster 4 of Horizon Europe, highlighting the added value of EU research funding in the field of industrial key technologies. 5G-Timber features as an exemplary project in terms of the broad thematic spectrum embraced by industrial key technologies, and in demonstrating that cross-border collaboration is beneficial for each participating project partner.
The following ten projects are introduced in the Success Brochure 2023 on Industrial Key Technologies:

The NCP DIT's Success Brochure 2023 highlights impactful projects in the realm of industrial key technologies, addressing the diverse challenges faced by the EU. 5G-Timber has been highlighted in the brochure as a noteworthy project, considering the anticipated widespread adoption of 5G technologies in the manufacturing sector over the next five years.
5G-Timber is shown to be an exemplary project using digitalisation as a key driver to make Europe the first digitally-led, climate-neutral continent with a functional circular economy. Leveraging 5G-enabled data-driven open-source solutions in the construction industry, the project not only enhances resource efficiency and waste reduction in energy-intensive sectors but also creates a market for fully recyclable resources. The incorporation of 5G, IoT applications, and AI structures enables the digital representation of the material cycle from resource extraction to final recycling as a digital twin.
The article also highlights that, In the realm of production, 5G-Timber is significant for the project’s lean, agile, and customer-oriented approach, simultaneously elevating product processing levels and shortening supply chains. Focusing on process optimization, maintenance, and co-designing customised products and services, 5G-TIMBER has demonstrated the potential to significantly transform user habits and expectations, particularly in the context of smart homes and construction.
