5G-Timber & EFFRA: Innovation Driven by Shared Ambitions
The European Factories of the Future Research Association (EFFRA) is a not-for-profit association, promoting the development of new and innovative production technologies. With an industry-driven focus, EFFRA serves as the European Commission’s private partner in the Made in Europe manufacturing partnership. EFFRA’s main objective is to promote pre-competitive research on production technologies within the European Research Area.
EFFRA’s vision of Europe as the number one machinery equipment provider, along with being the most attractive region for producing sustainable high-value goods and services, fits perfectly with the ambitions of 5G-Timber’s aims to support the rapid uptake of 5G technologies, considering real industrial practices and constraints in the EU timber industry over the wood value chain. With a project implementation team that includes sixteen organisations from academia and industry across ten European countries, 5G-Timber also aligns with the EFFRA objectives of offering a convergence point between industry and academia, centred around manufacturing research and innovation.
In May 2024, 5G-Timber was an active participant in the EFFRA Manufacturing Partnership Day for the second year running, proudly presenting as part of the day’s programme, and displaying at booth #25. These were great opportunities for 5G-Timber to showcase the project’s development of 5G-enabled Use Cases and its implementation of field trials for different small and medium-sized manufacturing industries. We were also thrilled to be joined by sister-project Zero Swarm right next door at booth #26.
